I also said that this could scare him and with many kids on the spectrum, they go into fight or flight mode. My son is not violent but when scared, he is strong. He is capable of enduring things with patience and a non-threatening approach. The physician's assistant said that that they would allow me to administer a little benadryl then they would need to inject him with medication. Instead, they changed their mind without telling me, entered our small room with 6 or so staff member in scrubs surrounding us. I found that very alarming but tried to figure out what was needed by them so that they could proceed with the injection. I told them to give me time to get him to walk to me to sit on my lap or at least approach me so that I could try to bear hug him. It was obvious he was confused and scared. I was barely a minute into my efforts when all of a sudden the assistant went in, grabbed my son's arms from the front with no warning whatsoever! My son was terrified and was screaming! The guy wouldn't let go and I found myself on the floor trying to make eye contact with my son and keep him from hitting his head on the floor. The guy then let go, walked towards the door with the staff and me staring at him in absolute shock, and said, Give him the benadryl and let him sit with mom for a bit.
