We offer high quality care at a low cost. I am not sure about your prices in Urgent Cares, but they are not close to what you are stating here. I wish Medicare paid that much. Average charges for our patients and most reputable Urgent Care centers is around $100. Medicare pays much less, and Medicaid pays essentially nothing. We do take all cases, and many are refered by Primary Care physician's offices and high quality physicians when they can't handle the case in their office like hypertensive emergency, abcesses, complex lacerations, dehydration, etc. We also see many patients because high quality physicians are not convinient due to not able to get them in on the patient time, lunch time, evenings and weekends. They find that a visit at our Urgent Care Center takes usually under 30 min total time, better then spending a few hours in their PCP office. When the nurse practitioner came into my room she told me there was no fracture that she could see, but they were going to send the x-rays to a radiologist to be read properly. She told me she was prescribing naproxen for my swelling. Which irritated me because I have on my medical records that I am taking a blood thinner called Warfarin. Any first-year nursing student would know that anti-inflammatories cannot be taken in conjunction with Warfarin. When I told her I could not take it because of my other medication she told me she was unaware I was on it. And I told her that goes to show she does not read any of the paperwork that the patients have to fill out in order to be seen. My list of medications only had three items on it with Warfarin spelled out in capital letters at the top of the list. Her error could have caused me to have internal bleeding. Dr Alexander might have been right about everything he was telling me but his unprofessional attitude and his dismissive and condescending attitude make the whole experience unbearable. I have seen a lot of medical professionals in my life and I have never been so unimpressed. On 8/21/15, I went in to see Dr. Julie Bingham, my (former) primary care physician. I was born with a heart condition. I know my medical history, and one of the symptoms of my condition is an unusually low blood oxygen saturation. When Dr. Bingham read my blood oxygen levels, she immediately ordered me to go to the emergency room in an ambulance. That was it. No discussion. The facilities are very nice. They have a variety of beverages available ( and encourage you to take) and snack as well. Additionally, in the individual rooms they have couches and TVs for you to watch. And not just like one station, full cable TVs that you have control over. There have been times that I've gone to actual appts a the doctor's office and found myself waiting upwards of an hour that I would have greatly appreciated this! Go figure, that they are not only quick, but if they weren't...I wouldn't have minded nearly as much.
