The Mediation Clinic was created by Professor Lisa Klerman to give students hands on experience with what many view as the essential task of lawyering - helping people solve problems creatively, effectively, and efficiently. In the Mediation Clinic, students learn the dispute resolution skills required to become professional mediators and use those skills to mediate actual cases in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Unlike traditional litigation clinics where students learn to use the law to advocate for one side in a dispute, as mediators, the students do not represent one side or the other. Instead, they are third party neutrals who act as facilitators to help the parties craft a resolution to their lawsuit. Called ahead on a Wednesday afternoon to see if they could see me the same day. Receptionist answered promptly and was polite, told me I didn't need an appointment, just that they stop taking patients at 5:30 (they closed at 6). When I went there about an hour later, there was almost no one in the waiting room and the reception was again polite. The med student came in first and listened to my breathing and checked my throat after I described that I was there because I'd had cold symptoms for the past 2 weeks. She told me she thought it was most likely viral as my throat had no spots and breathing sounded fine. Then the doctor saw me and did the same thing, checked my temperature, came to the same conclusion. Both said it was normal for me to still be getting over it after 2 weeks, but to come back if I got a fever or started to feel worse again. They were friendly and I didn't feel they were rushed or not listening. Also liked the fact that there was a bottle of hand sanitizer on a little table right as you walk in with a sign politely asking people to use it before they entered; I am always hesitant to go to a walk-in even if I'm sick as the idea of sitting somewhere with a lot of other sick people around me doesn't make a lot of sense. Only downside I could see of this place is they had a list of fees they charge for stuff that seemed pretty basic, like proof of vaccines I think was one of them. My husband had accompanied me and he was seen just as promptly, for the same symptoms. They also gave him the booster shot for hep A. Initially they flat out said they wouldn't give him the booster- they don't do travel vaccines. When he explained he'd come in several months ago for the initial shot and it wasn't for travel, it was because he'd eaten food from a contaminated restaurant, then they relented and said ok.
