All students, faculty members and staff are expected to comply with the guidelines for collecting, using and protecting the privacy of personal patient information. It is an offence under Provincial and Federal Privacy Protection Legislation (PIPEDA and FDIPOP) to discuss/reveal/share information about a patient's name or condition outside of those professionals directly responsible for the patient's care needs or providing consultation advice on the patient's care needs (this is called the 'circle of care'). These guide lines apply whether the information is shared verbally, on paper or electronically. A brief summary of important points: a.
