Out of respect for the patient's time, comfort and quality of care, faculty should direct and intervene in the delivery of treatment by student clinicians when necessary to enable patient care to be satisfactorily completed and the patient to be dismissed at the appropriate hour. Supervising clinical faculty are responsible to ensure that the patient's chart (paper and/or electronic) is with the patient at all times, that all actions are recorded and decisions are shared with the student and patient. Faculty are required to print their surnames near their daily signature in the Progress Notes in the paper chart and enter their confidential user name and password in the electronic record to approve planned, in progress or completed care.
