The short version was Dr. Dawson wanted to do blood work and x-rays and I thought both suggestions were good because we had no idea (on examination alone) what was going on with my dog. Blood work was unremarkable, for the purpose of this critique, and Dr. Dawson came back returned with X-rays of my dog??s right side and full body. She thought she saw a small foreign mass, but she wasn??t completely convinced. Her advice was to leave my dog at the clinic for further tests and to keep her hydrated. I know how to do subcut fluids and after Dr. Dawson had administered antibiotics, fluids and something to help with the nausea, I decided to take my pooch home. The bill was over $500 and I would have been okay with this HOWEVER, my dog was still unable to keep anything down when we got home and when my vet opened on Tuesday, he saw us right away. He asked what the diagnosis was and I had no answer for him. He reviewed the films provided by the clinic and saw nothing. Being the extremely thorough vet, who is beloved by many, he also X-rayed my dog??s left side and immediately saw a very large foreign body. I asked him quite candidly if X-raying the left side was all it took to find a diagnosis and if Dr. Dawson had done this, would she have been able to give me a definitive diagnoses and he replied in the affirmative to both.
