My 10 month old baby had a lot of congestion, and this was the only urgent care I could find open near me on a Saturday afternoon. He was seen by Dr. Mohamad Bachir Kadri, who immediately told me that my baby definitely had an enlarged liver. Add that to the panic of the congestion. He told me he was a pediatrician and then gave my baby a breathing treatment using a mask for adult sized faces. He said he would only give half now, and I should come back on the following Monday for the other half. When I went to check out, they were charging me $175! This included the doctor fee and a fee for the nebulizer treatment and medicine. At the front desk I asked why it was so much and was told it was because of the insurance I have. I have a PPO and usually pay a $25 copay at the Cedars Sinai Urgent Care to cover all treatment, so I was really confused by the high rate. After some argument with the man at the front desk, and then the doctor, they took off $25. I ended up storming out upset at the confusing information and concerned over my baby's apparently enlarged liver. I took him to see another doctor the next day and was told his liver was normal. A month or so later I was reimbursed by my insurance company for the doctor visit. I'm not sure why they didn't just tell me that would happen when I questioned the charge at the doctor's office. So overall, a negative experience due to perhaps a lack of knowledge and communication skills from the front desk, and lack of pediatric medical training and bedside manner from the doctor.
